Wednesday August 17 2016 - So why Loserboy?Anecdotes
I've been asked several times why I've chosen "Loserboy" as my wrestling handle.

When I started wrestling back in 2000, my first opponent was 6'5", 260 lbs. He went by by the handle of JC or Anonymous. I was back at the time 5'4", 150 lbs so this guy had a 1'1" and 110 lbs advantage of me. Being my first time, I of course lost and kept giving up over and over. Despite my best efforts, there was no way I could do anything to such a strong and formidable adversary.

Hence, Anonymous gave me the name of Loserboy because of my lack of skill back then. With the years, I've fought many more wrestlers and learned how to fight back, but I felt that if I changed my handle, it would confuse the heck out of a lot of people who still know me today by Loserboy.

Deep down, I'm a jobber. I do like to lose. I do like having the upper hand at the beginning of a match to be shown a lesson and end up losing. I like lifting people in racks because it shows the contrast between a small guy tackling on big guys, just like all those uneven matches you'd see on TV back in the 80s and 90s. Fine, on TV, small guys don't rack big guys, but they sometimes get the upper hand one way or another.

When I do fight sub, I'll give in my 110%. If I find someone who desires to be a jobber, I can definitely play the heel part.

It did take me several years to transition between a full jobber to a versatile wrestler... it took me a few more years after that to learn and enjoy pro. Sub was my original style, but before that, I was just a plain vegetable jobber where people would just apply holds on me (hence the term give and take... but I guess in this case it's more "take" than anything else). I realize that nobody really wants to wrestle a vegetable... Today, I have around 16 years of on-and-off playful wrestling experience... I put an emphasis on playful because I've never really done real sub in a tournament, nor real pro in front of a crowd. Ok... the Clash is something different and it doesn't count! As for the term On-and-off, it's more because there were months where I'd had no wrestling action and other months where I would get a good amount of matches.

Not many people in my entourage outside the wrestling community knows about my wrestling interest. For me, it's no different than two persons practicing any other sport like badminton or hockey, but many obviously view wrestling as something unusual or too different.

Today, when I meet new wrestlers, I always start my match defensively and passively. I wait for my opponent to tackle me first and from there, I try to determine their fighting/wrestling style, their level of aggressiveness and adapt to it. I feel it's the best way to learn from my opponents. It's also a great way to play safe and to try to make my opponents happy... or to just have a good time.

If I had a chance to give myself a different name, I would probably go with either RackerMTL, The_Racker, ScissorBoy, RackerBoy or ScissorDude. Maybe even RackMan or RackBoy... hehehe. SharkBoy wouldn't be bad either. It would be in reference to crushing people between my legs, but I think that name would just scare people away.

Ironically, having a name like Loserboy also scares a lot of people away in the sense that they don't want to wrestle a jobber. So yeah, keeping this name is a double-edged sword, but I'm hoping that my racking pictures should show my future opponents my capabilities through a different angle.
