Sunday August 7 2016 - Wrestling ring in Montreal!!!Recent matches
Yes! There is a wrestling ring in Montreal! Finally!

I got the information from a friend who told me to go to Bella Rush's facebook. You can get her e-mail address there by clicking the "About" link and yes, this woman owns the ring and rents it at a rate of 40$ per hour 60$ per hour (as of February 2017), which is pretty good in my opinion! The best way to reach Bella is either by messaging her through Facebook, or by sending her an e-mail. Later on, if you gain her trust, she might give you her cell phone number.

You can also visit her website:

Tip: Don't cancel out on a reservation. It takes months, if not years, to build someone's trust, but it only takes a few seconds to lose it.

The wrestling ring is right in the middle of downtown Montreal near Berri-UQAM subway station, it is very well maintained and there's plenty of options to play with the lighting for camera and photo work. Here is a corner angle shot of the ring:

Needless to say, I brought in my most reliable wrestler: Phil (id 5843) and I asked him to take a few wrestling cliché pictures with me.

Phil later told me that I was actually hitting him a bit too hard with the Low Blow... oops! Being my first time in this particular ring and being limited to one hour, you can tell I was stressed because you can see that sweat running down my chest... Can't complain, it does add a bit more realism to the pose.

Up next, I have this knee backbreaker that looks radiantly beautiful on the ring. Don't mind me grabbing his butt... how else can I hold Phil to drop him on my knee?

Phil is such a good sport. He had a bit of prior experience with the ring and wrestling training, so running around the ropes with him was a blast!

We had to be quick because I only had the ring for one hour. I wanted to do a quick test of the look and feel of the ring since it's my first time here. I have to say that I'm quite satisfied such that, next time for sure, I would rent the ring for at least 2 hours (or more).

I guess the time constraint, my constant running around, setting up the camera, sampling the holds, showing it to Phil and all this back and forth made me sweat like crazy during the photo shoot. It's not a problem though.. it actually looks great on the pictures. Just check the one where I give Phil a low blow... the drips just run down my chest and it makes it slightly shiny! Neat! hehehehehe...

On each side of the ring near the ceiling was some sort of LED lighting that changes color every few seconds. I had to turn that thing off because this would cause disruption in the pictures: it would put on the shot a strong taint of blue, red or purple. Instead, there are two compact fluorescent light bulbs that can be turned on. These bring enough lighting to the pictures.

You'll see the blue taint we were supposed to have on the lower-left corner of the pic below. It was all over us when we were taking pictures directly on the lighting. It wasn't really nice for most of the wrestling poses... but for this one though, this profile pic, the blue taint is just great. Heck, it goes with my trunks!

In comparison, I had to alter the bearhug below to remove the blue lighting from or bodies because we were starting to look like those blue creatures in Avatar. Image editing software like Photoshop CS works wonder to remove these annoyances or imperfections. It was only after a couple of ruined shots that I figured out how to disable the LED lighting. Thank goodness... I wouldn't have the patience to re-edit each of the pictures we took.

I was able to show Phil a couple of pro moves like the clotheslines, the turnbuckle thingy, the Tree of Woe or just the plain use of the ropes to take advantage of your opponent.

After I was done with the ring, I quickly thanked Bella for the rental and embraced Phil for this amazing session. The only thing I forgot to do while heading out was to use anti-bacterial cleaning wipes on the floor of the ring to remove all my drops of sweat. It's the courteous thing to do... Actually, next time, I should probably be using the wipes before AND after the match, because you never know who used the ring prior to the match, if someone bled and what are the health and skin condition of the previous users of the wrestling ring. I never caught ringworm yet in any of my hotel or ring matches... (... knock on wood ...), but it's better to be safe than sorry.

So, can the ring be used for submission wrestling?

Definitely!

There's plenty of space to just stay grounded on the mats instead of having to stay up and use the ropes. In fact, this is way much MUCH much better than putting two double queen beds together in a hotel (which is what I was doing previously up until now). Mind you, I would still wrestle most of the wrestlers in a hotel room first to determine their reliability. I feel that if my opponent doesn't show up for whatever reason and I booked advance time for ring rental, then I should still pay the owner. Otherwise, I might permanently lose access to this wrestling ring.

Back home, I've unloaded the pics from my camera, sent them to Phil and I'm feeling so pumped up right now! I have all the shots that are required to write a ring match! I need to work on that!
