1. The Basics

The game is very simple. Once you start the game, press the "Lock Up" button to lock up with your opponent. The computer will then choose who gets the advantage. If the computer gets it, he will randomly apply a hold on you and you will receive some damage. If you get the advantage, you will get to apply one out of five submission holds:

- The Bearhug
- The Full Nelson
- The Camel clutch
- The Sleeper
- The Rack

Beside each hold, a percentage number will indicate the chances you have to apply the submission hold on your opponent. This percentage varies depending on attacks you make and attacks performed by your opponent. The percentage can also vary depending on what items you consume.

Furthermore, each submission holds has an impact on the probabilities of your other submission holds. It is up to you to experiment them and determine which submission hold should be used. Of course, you should never pick a submission hold that has a low probability of success (there are some exceptions to this rule). Any submission hold with a rating of 100% or more guarantees a hit on your opponent.

Each attack in the game (wether done by you or your opponent) causes damage that is substracted directly from your energy or your opponent's energy (depending on who did the attack). In a normal easy game, you start with 1,000 points of energy and your opponent starts with 500 points. Your opponent's points will start at a greater value as you progress through levels. Your goal is to inflict enough damage to your opponent to reduce his energy to 0. If your energy reaches 0 before your opponent's energy, you lose. To prevent this, some food items and vitamins can be consumed to recover energy. More on this will be discussed later.

Your energy is capped at 1000 × level. So, if you are on level 12, your maximum energy is 12,000 points. You and your opponent also regenerate 5 pts of energy after each short interval during the match.

When applying a hold, you should wait until the hold finishes before you can apply another hold.

To start a game, simply press "Start Game". From there, you will have to press "Lock Up" and then choose any submission move you want to apply. All the buttons may be disabled if it is the computer's turn to play.

It is important to end a game before leaving the page by pressing on "End Game". If your score is high enough, you can get a prize!

2. Food items

Food items are given randomly and on specific events/triggers of the game. Food items are only given on "easy", "intermediate" and "hard" difficulties. If you play the game on "Very Hard" or "Impossible", you will very rarely receive food items. The effect of food items varies from one food type to another. In general, food items give you energy and a greater chance to apply your submission holds (this is called a probability). Also note that some items can make you lose energy or probabilities. The maximum food items you can cary at anytime is 50. Any food items received after 50 will be automatically discarded by the game, so it is wise to start consuming a couple of items if you currently have more than 40-45 items. An example on how food items appear on your screen is shown below. To consume an item, simply choose one item from the drop down menu and press "Use". If you press on "Sort", all the items in your inventory will be sorted in alphabetical order.

Example of food items in your inventory

Food items are randomly given to you after a set amount of moves and attacks in the game. They also given to you for free at the beginning of most levels (this depends on the difficulty level of the game). They can also be given to you if you perform a submission hold that has a LOW probability of success (less or equal to 50%) or when you apply a hold that has a probablity that is multiple of a hidden number. For instance, if you apply the "rack" when its probability is a multiple of 5 (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, etc.), you will have a chance of receiving an item. The chance to receive an item is also determined by the difficulty level. If you play the game on "Easy", the probability of receiving an item by fulfilling the conditions described above is 100%.

The effects of each food item is shown in the chart below.

???? Potion (7) ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Notes:
(1) All food items will cause a multiplier of x2 to appear if you currently have NO multipliers active.

(2) The heart icon will only be given if you did not receive any heart previously during the level/match.

(3) The "Elixir", a very rare item, will double the amount of energy you currently have. If you have 2500 energy, drinking the elixir will bring you up to 5000 energy (without of course exceeding the energy cap of 1000 × level -- if in the previous example, you were in level 4, your energy would be increased to 4000 instead of 5000 because your energy is capped at 1000 × 4 = 4000). Obviously, the elixir can be a worthless item if you drink it when your energy is very low. For example, drinking this potion when you have 10 energy, will raise your energy to 20 (because 10 × 2 = 20). Hence, the Elixir is most effective at high values of energy.

(4) The "Milk" item also increases the current multiplier (if any) by 1. So, if your multiplier is x3 , it will be upgraded to x4 . Any random multiplier given to you can still overlap and/or negate the effect of this increase.

(5) The "Lunch Box" will give you from 0 to 5 items depending on the difficulty (and provided that you have enough space to hold these items). If you do not have enough space in your inventory to hold 5 items, any exceeding items will be discarded automatically.

(6) Drinking the "Dangerous Potion" will cause you to lose energy equivalent to 1000 × level (this value can be multiplied depending on the level and difficulty), but will greatly increase your strength. To counter the negative effects of this potion, drink it at full energy and make sure you are protected by a shield or an enchanted shield . You can also try to consume multiple food items that increase energy.

(7) Drinking the "???? Potion" will cause randomly one of these five things:
• Same effect as Elixir
• Same effect as Super Buffet
• Nothing
• Same effect as Chips
• Same effect as Dangerous Potion

(8) The White Pill allows you to apply another Ultimate Bearhug (provided that you already did an Ultimate Bearhug prior to consuming this pill). Information about the Ultimate Bearhug can be found in a later section.

(9) Read the warning below for negative energy values.

Note that energy values can vary at higher levels and at different difficulties. However, all other values (probabilities/chances to apply a hold) remain the same for all levels/difficulties.

WARNING:
All NEGATIVE energy values in the food list indicate the MINIMUM energy that will be substracted. This value can actually be doubled, tripled or multiplied many times depending on the difficulty and the level you are playing. For example, at level 5 of the easy level, the amount of energy decreased by a spoiled meat is -1500 instead of -750. The value is exceptionally higher as you progress through levels or choose higher difficulties.

This warning does not apply on probability values.

Items giving negative bonuses are not necessarily bad. For example, the Red and Blue Pills are good items to use strategically to enact the Ultimate Bearhug (discussed in a later section). Wines are best used at the end of a level when you have beaten your opponent. Other items such as Chips are completely useless. Note that items CANNOT be discarded, but a good way to get rid of them is to consume them at the end of a match (when your opponent energy drops to 0). Remember, items can be consumed at any time, even when you are applying a hold or when the enemy applies a hold on you. The only time you cannot use an item is when your energy reaches 0.

(10) A free potato can be acquired by clicking on the field where the level is displayed. This is valid only once per game.

(11) The Potion of Reversal is a special item that switches your energy with your opponent's energy. So, if you have 200 points of energy and your opponent has 1000 points of energy, after using the potion, you will have 1000 points of energy while your opponent will only have 200 points. This is however subject to capping (your maximum energy will still not exceed 1000 × level). Obviously, this potion is best used when your energy is inferior to your opponent's energy.

(12) The Super Elixir sets your energy to its highest maximum value for your level (i.e. 1000 × level).

3. Vitamins

Vitamins are also given randomly during battle. To consume them, just click on the corresponding vitamin. If you have none of that type of vitamin, you will not be able to press the button. In the example below, you have no Vitamin A, so you cannot use that button. However, you have 2 Vitamin B and will be able to consume one of them by clicking on that button.

Example of Vitamins

The effect of vitamins are as follows:

Vitamin A increases your energy. The amount of energy is greater if your energy is low and is also determined by the level of the game. The amount of energy is recovered is also determined by your level. The higher the level, the more energy you will recover.

Vitamin B increases all of your probabilities (probability of landing an attack and probabilities of applying submission holds).

Vitamin C increases your strength by making your submission hold more damaging. This vitamin lasts for a limited time. This vitamin will cause the mad icon to appear.

Vitamin D causes your bearhugs to be a lot more effective. This vitamin also lasts for a limited time. This vitamin will cause the happy icon to appear.

Vitamin E hardens your body by reducing the amount of damage you get from your opponent's attacks. Vitamin E are best used at level 5 and higher. This vitamin will cause the shield icon to appear.

Note that Vitamin C and Vitamin D are very effective together. Unlike food items, the amount of vitamins you can collect is unlimited. However, as you progress through levels, you will notice that vitamins will become rarer.

You normally receive one free vitamin at a start of each new match.. Although, this depends also on the difficulty level.

The effects of the vitamins is summarized in the chart below:

4. The Icons

There are five icons that can appear above your score (and underneath your level).

- The mad icon indicates that your attacks (submission holds) are causing double damage to your opponent. In some cases, the damage dealt can be tripled.

- The happy icon indicates that your bearhug submission hold is currently more effective.

- The shield icon indicates that damage done to your by your opponent is reduced. The amount reduced depends on your level & difficulty of the game. In some case, you can get an enchanted shield which will drastically reduce the damage done by your opponent. The shield will also change color to indicate that the protection will be wearing off. A red shield indicates that the protection is almost over.

- The heart icon is an indicator of the "Ultimate Bearhug" which is explained in a later section.

- The multiplier icon indicates that you will be awarded double, triple, 4 times or 5 times the amount of points you usually receive. More on this can be found in the multiplier section.

All icons lasts a limited time. These icons dissapear or are replaced at the start of each new match/level.

5. Multipliers & Combos

If you do not care about obtaining a high score, then you can ignore this section. However, take note that multipliers also affect the amount of energy you can recover.

Multipliers are given randomly to you at the beginning of each level (except your first level of the game). They can also be given randomly to you during battle and they can also appear when you consume a food item or when you apply a hold at a low probability of success (less or equal to 25%).

Multipliers greatly increase the amount of points you receive by doubling them. In other cases, it can even triple them or multiply them by 4 or 5. In addition, more than one multiplier can appear. Multipliers are cumulative, so if you have two multipliers are more, their effects will be overlapped. For example, if you have a x2 multiplier and a x4 multiplier, the points that will be awarded to your score will be multiplied by x8.

Whenever you perform a combo and a multiplier is active (remember, multipliers are shown above your score), you can click the "combo" field at the end of your move and you will automatically get some energy back plus some bonus points (an example of the combo field is shown below -- you can try to click on it for practice). This can ONLY be done when you have at least a x2 multiplier or greater. If you have no multiplier, clicking on the combo field is useless. An example of a combo field is shown below:

Example of a combo field

Combos are done automatically. If you apply on your opponent a hold that will last long (for example, a long bearhug), a number will automatically appear showing the amount of times you applied the hold. These are denoted as combos and can only be clicked when you are done performing the submission hold. Please note that clicking on "Lock Up" will reset the combo field to 0.

Combos and multipliers are a great duo to increase your score. You can increase the length of your combos by consuming food items and some vitamins.

If at the end of a combo, you have no multiplier, you should consume a food item, then click on the combo field to recover some energy and earn some bonus points.

6. The Ultimate Bearhug

The Ultimate Bearhug is a hidden special attack of the game. To enable this attack, you must use your "rack" submission hold when its probability of success is 0%. Of course, this will probably cause your opponent to land an attack on you. If you completed this step successfully, a heart will appear just above your score.

Next, you should use your "bearhug" submission hold at a low probability (preferably less than 40% although you can still enact the Ultimate Bearhug at 60-70% -- the point here, is to *miss* the bearhug, so the lower your probability, the better the chances to apply the Ultimate Bearhug). If done correctly, the heart item changes into a x2 multiplier and you will perform the Ultimate Bearhug which automatically increases your energy by 1000 points and decreases your opponent's energy by 1000 points. Furthermore, you will be able to apply the bearhug for a long time.

It is to be noted that only ONE Ultimate Bearhug is allowed per level/match. Once a new match starts, you may repeat the steps described above to apply another Ultimate Bearhug.

After performing an Ultimate Bearhug succesfully, the x2 icon will remain until the end of the match. It will cause your points to be doubled each time they are added to your score. Note that this x2 is cumulative with any other multipliers given to you. So, basically, you can get up to x10 points (by using x2 and x5).

A special item called the "Super Sundae" will help you get the heart icon without applying the rack at 0%. They are given automatically at each 5 levels and you can also receive it randomly.

7. Battle Log & Game Options

A log of all the moves performed is displayed at the bottom of the game. You will need to scroll down to view it. It is shown for convenience and if you wish to save it, just copy and paste it on a notepad document.

To access the game options, you will also need to scroll down the game. You can select the difficulty you wish to play and the starting level of the game. The higher the level, the tougher your opponent will be, the more energy he will have and the more damaging his attacks will be. Note that you can only set game options before starting a game. If there is a game in progress, end the game and you will be able to change the game options.

Playing the game on easy will assure you 100% items reception and lots of vitamins.

Playing the game on intermediate will assure you around 50% items reception and half the usual vitamins.

Playing the game on hard will assure you around 20% items reception and half the usual vitamins.

Playing the game on very hard will rarely give you items. You will still continue to receive vitamins.

Playing the game on impossible will very rarely give you items. You also start with one vitamin of each type and will not receive any additional vitamins. This is available for those who wish to have a better challenge. Most players should collapse from level 1 to level 4 depending on their luck and skills.

The remaining options are unimportant and self-explanatory. It is up to you to experiment them.

8. Additional Hints

• At the start of a game, if you get the advantage of applying a hold at the first lock up, applying a bearhug always gives you a wine item. However, applying a rack as your first hold will give you a milk item, which is much more useful, but you will most likely miss your submission hold and get some damage (This is true for the first three difficulties).

• Eating food items or consuming some vitamins at maximum energy can cause your maximum energy to increase over its limit (but it cannot exceed the current cap of 1000 × level. So at level 5, if you current energy is 5000, consuming a food item is useless because your energy is capped at 1000 × 5 = 5000).

• The higher your probability, the longer your submission hold will be. The longer your hold, the more damage you inflict each time your hold is performed. This damage is resetted at the end of your submission move. (True for all difficulties)

• The yellow probability appearing during the game indicates your opponent's probability of applying the submission hold on you. The higher that number, the longer he will apply it on you. You can help reduce this probability by clicking on that yellow probability each time your opponent performs the submission (in other words, each time you see the probability decrease). (True for all difficulties)

• The x5 multiplier helps reduce the amount of times your opponent applies a submission hold on you. So, a great way to make this multiplier appear is to use items like "Pill #5" or "Wine". The mad , happy and shield icons will also contribute in reducing the amount of times your opponent applies a submission hold on you.

• Applying the full nelson when the last digit of the probability is equal to 1 will automatically award you a mad icon . (i.e, 1%, 11%, 21%, 31%, etc.) (This is true for all difficulties. You should also try this last digit effect on other holds -- with different digits of course. Players that can figure out the patterns and master them can survive much longer even in "impossible" level).

• You can view the hidden multiple of each hold by selecting your probabilities in the table that shows you all the probabilities during the game. Using a hold that has the probability of a given multiple will always net you an item. (This is true for the first three difficulties).

• A hidden multipler of x2 is active when you continue to perform a submission move on an opponent that has his energy already drained (energy equal to 0). This hidden multiplier is cumulative with any other multipliers that you already have. In addition, your will receive some energy back with each strike of the submission hold. This is why it is good to finish your opponent with a long and effective submission. The longer your finishing blow, the more poitns you score and the more energy you will recover.

• Clicking the field that contains the opponent's energy will net you a "blue pill". This only works once per game.

• Playing the game at a specific time of the day will affect the efficiency of some of the submission holds. Use the following chart:

Hold Time of day
(1) (2)
Damage bonus
(4)
Bearhug 3 AM or 3 PM
10 AM or 10 PM
+70
Full Nelson 5 AM or 5 PM +40 (recovery) (3)
Camel Clutch 4 AM or 4 PM
8 AM or 8 PM
+50
Sleeper 2 AM or 2 PM
7 AM or 7 PM
+30
Rack 1 AM or 1 PM
9 AM or 9 PM
+100
Bearhug Minutes ends with 1 +10
Bearhug Minutes ends with 2 +20
Bearhug Minutes ends with 3 +60
Bearhug Minutes ends with 5 +5
Bearhug Minutes ends with 0 -4
Full Nelson Minutes ends with 5 +25 (recovery) (3)
Full Nelson Seconds ends with 5 +70 (recovery) (3)
Camel Clutch Minutes ends with 4 +20
Camel Clutch Minutes ends with 8 +10
Sleeper Minutes ends with 6 +15
Sleeper Minutes ends with 9 +30
Rack Seconds ends with 7 +85
(1) Time of day indicate a full hour. For example, a time of day of 3 PM means any time between 3:00 PM and 3:59 PM. Note that the time is dependant on the time set by your computer.

(2) For minutes and seconds, only the last digit matters. For example, the criteria of "Minutes ends with 3" means the 3rd, 13th, 23th, 33th, 43th, 53th minute of ANY hour. The same applies for seconds. A criteria of "Seconds ends with 7" means the 7th, 17th, 27th, 37th, 47th or 57th second of ANY minute.

(3) Only for the full nelson, the damage bonus is replaced by a recovery bonus. Each time the full nelson is applied in the interval of time specified, the user receives a +25, +40 or +70 bonus recovery per application depending on the criteria fulfilled.

(4) Damage bonus and damage recovery are cumulative. For example, if a bearhug is applied at 3:03 PM, the damage bonus is +70 and +60 for a total of +130 damage bonus per bearhug application. If a full nelson is applied on 5:35:15, then the bonus received are +25, +40 and +70 for a total bonus recovery of +135 per full nelson application.

• There is an invisible cheat button in the game, but using the cheat will NOT allow you to save/record your high score. To find this cheat button, try pressing Ctrl-A and look everywhere on the page. Note that using the cheat can cause the game to infinitely apply holds unless you deactivate it.

9. Season Changes

In Season 3, three (3) new items have been introduced: Super Elixir, Potion of Reversal, Wrestler's Drink. These items just mentionned along with two other standard items (Super Sundae and Super Buffet) are randomly chosen and one of them is given to you at the start of each new game regardless of difficulty level. The damage dealt by opponents has also been increased and significantly boosted at higher levels (per set of 5 levels).

In Season 2, three (3) new items have been introduced: Almond, Cracker, Whisky. Also new in season 2 is the introduction to damage bonus at a specific time of the day. Read the Additional Hints (section 8) for more information.

Season 2 started on March 24, 2005 and the end period can be any time after 6 months of the start period.
Current high scores for Season 2 can be accessed by clicking here. The most important change in season 2 is the default difficulty level, which is set to hard. The user can still choose to set it a lower difficulty level (such as easy or intermediate) before starting the game.

Season 3 starts on January 1st, 2007 with currently no estimated end time.

Season 2 was the period from March 24, 2005 to December 31, 2006.
The high scores can still be accessed by clicking here.

Season 1 was the period from July 13, 2004 to March 23, 2005.
The high scores can still be accessed by clicking here.

9. Troubleshooting and Contact Information

The game is still in its testing stages and can have plenty of bugs.

If the main screen with the pictures constantly blinks, move your mouse away from it.

If the game hangs up, try closing the page and reopening it.

If your score failed to save, try hitting "Backspace" and re-submit your score. The server may be busy. If all fails, e-mail me (see address below) with all the information displayed in the scoring information page and be honest please :) If the information makes sense, I will add it to the file of saved scores. I reserve the right to refuse your high score.

Please report any bugs (and try to tell me how you were able to activate the bug so I can reproduce the bug myself when I play the game and try to fix it) to this e-mail address:

virtuarassle@yahoo.com

You may also send in complaints, suggestions and comments at the above address.
