What does it cost to use this wrestling personals system?

Nothing. It's free.

Do I need to be a member to use your wrestling personals system?

No, you don't need to be a member to use the system, but you will only be able to search and view profiles. You obviously can't modify a profile if you don't create one first.

You may still contact members if they list their e-mail publicly in their profile, but if they don't, you will need to have a profile to send them a message.

How do I create a profile?

To create a profile, click here.

How do I modify a profile?

To modify a profile you already created, you will need to log in first, then you'll be given the option to modify your profile in the Control Panel.

How do I search for profiles?

By using the search page.

How do I check my messages?

Once logged in, simply go to the Control Panel and click on "My messages".

Also, near the top right of every page, you will see an envelope that looks like this or like this that indicates if you have unread messages or not. If you click on it, it will also lead you to your messages.

How can I tell which message I have read, which ones that are new and which ones I have replied?

Once logged in, simply go to the Control Panel and click on "My messages".

Each message you received has an icon and the icon shown depends on the following:

You have not read this message yet.
You have already read this message.
You have already read and replied to this message.

How can I tell if my sent messages have been opened/read, replied or deleted?

Once logged in, simply go to the Control Panel, click on "My messages" and finally click on "Sending History".

Each message you have sent has an icon and the icon shown depends on the following:

Your message has not yet been opened or read.
Your message has been read.
You message have been read and a reply has been issued back to you.
Your message has been deleted.

Please note that if a message has been read, but not replied, it may be possible that the owner sent you a new message instead of replying to your message. In this case, the icon will remain as read, but not replied since a new message is used instead.

How long are messages kept before they are removed from the server?

Messages are kept for approximatively 1 year before they are removed from the server. Meaning that a message that you write and send today will be removed from both your sent history and the receiver's inbox one year from today.

What is long version?

The long version of messages allows you to view both the subject and the body of all your messages in your inbox in one go. Simply click on [ Long version ] when you are accessing your message inbox.

How do I get an alert when I receive a new message on my inbox?

In the control panel, you can change your preferences. One of the preferences allows you to enable or disable e-mail notifications. To prevent spamming, only a maximum of one (1) message notification per day can be sent. This also means that if you receive 3 messages on the same day, you will only receive a notification for the first one.

How do I get "Verified" status on my profile?

If you have previously wrestled other users on bearhugger.net, visit their profile and add them as users you have previously wrestled. Once at least one user confirms that he has wrestled you, your profile will be automatically marked as "Verified".

How does the "Previously Wrestled" system work?

If two wrestlers have previously wrestled each other, the two of them have to visit the other wrestler's profile and mark him as "Previously wrestled". When both wrestlers do so, they confirm and mutually agree that they have previously wrestled each other and they will be listed as such on their profiles.

Example:
1. User A goes on the profile of User B and confirms that he has previously wrestled User B.
2. User B goes on the profile of User A and confirms that he has previously wrestled User A.

Result:
- User B appears as a previously wrestled user on User A.
- User A appears as a previously wrestled user on User B.

As you can see here, the mutual agreement here is mandatory. Both User A and User B must confirm that they have wrestled each other in order to be listed on each other's profile as "Previously wrestled". The mandatory mutual agreement is what makes this "Previously Wrestled" system different from the "Favorites and Admirers" system.

How do I check if someone is online or not?

That feature is not implemented yet and there is currently no ETA for such a feature.

You can however make use of the listing of Profiles by last login that is located in the Control Panel to partially determine if an user is still online:

Users near the top of the list have a chance of still being online: they could still be browsing profiles or reading messages from their inbox. If you're lucky, you might even find them in the chat room.

If an user has logged in two hours ago, chances are slimmer that he is still on the site as compared to someone who has just logged in 5 minutes ago.

You can also use the Yahoo Online Status Page which you can also find in the Control Panel. If you use Yahoo Messenger, you will be able to chat with people who are currently online on Yahoo Messenger by looking at the Yahoo Online Status Page and by adding those people on your list. Note that if you are logged in, you will see both private and public e-mail addresses provided that the user in question has decided to reveal his Yahoo e-mail address to members only or publicly to everyone.

If the member has decided to hide his e-mail address or to show it only to favorites, that member's status will not appear on the Yahoo Online Status Page.

How does the "Favorites and Admirers" system work?

It's pretty simple actually: When you add someone as a favorite, their username will appear on your profile as a favorite. On top of that, YOUR username will appear on THEIR profile as an admirer. So, in order to have admirers listed on your profile, other users have to visit your profile and add you as a favorite.

Example:
User A adds User B as a favorite:
- User A has User B listed on his profile as a favorite.
- User B has User A listed on his profile as an admirer.

A few days later, User B adds user A as a favorite.
- User B has User A listed on his profile as a favorite.
- User A has User B listed on his profile as an admirer.

Note that the mutual agreement here is not mandatory. In other words, User A may add User B as a favorite, but User B is in no obligation of adding User A as a favorite. The optional mutual agreement is what makes this "Favorites and Admirers" system different from the "Previously Wrestled" system.

How do I remove a "Most favorite wrestler"?

View your listing of favorite wrestlers, go to your most favorite and click on the medal

The medal will be demoted to a black star:

Alternatively, you can also view your profile, scroll down to the part that says "Most favorite wrestler" and click on [ Remove ].

Finally, you can also edit your settings and set the Profile ID of your favorite wrestler to 0.

How does the "Recommendation" system work?

When two wrestlers have mutually marked each other as past opponents (see the Previously Wrestled system), they can both leave on each other's profile a profile recommendation as a feedback of their wrestling match. This feedback can be either positive, neutral or negative.

A positive feedback means that you enjoyed the match with this user.
A neutral feedback means that you neither enjoyed or disliked the match.
A negative feedback means that you did not enjoy the match with this user.

How do I add, modify or delete a recommendation?

To add a recommendation, visit your listing of past opponents. Choose the profile you wish to leave a recommendation and you will find a link that says " Click here to leave a recommendation for this wrestler".

To modify or delete an existing recommendation, visit your listing of recommendations from the Control Panel and you will be given the option to edit the recommendation. When you edit the recommendation, you are given another option to delete the recommendation, if desired.

You will need to be logged in for any of this to work.

My profile hits went up, but I see no new users in my visitors log. Why?

The hit count goes up when either a logged or non-logged user visits your profile. So, if someone who doesn't have a profile or someone who did not log in visits your profile, the hit counter goes up and the visitors log will not record the no-profile user, since he does not have a profile or because he did not log in. The visitors log records only users who have logged in before visiting your profile.

I modified my profile, but the modification date is not updated. Why?

You can modify your profile as many times as you want, but the modification date will be updated once per 30 days. This is to prevent people from hogging the Updated Profiles listing. Some users purposely update their profile on a daily basis to be constantly placed at top of this list.

What is a private profile?

By default, all profiles are public, meaning that anyone can view your profile. In contrast, private profiles can only be viewed by users who have an existing profile on the site. The user must log in to view your profile.

How do I make a profile private?

From the "Control Panel", choose "Edit my preferences", then enable the checkbox that says " Private profile: Make my profile visible only to members" and submit your changes.

What is my password? I never received one!

Don't panic. We will create one for you sent directly to your e-mail. Click here to go to the Password Request Page to create your password.

I still did not receive my password after using the Password Request Page. What should I do?

Try waiting for an hour or two. Sometimes, mail servers take that much time to deliver e-mails. Try also checking your 'Junk Mail', your filters or any settings on your mailbox that could have blocked any mail delivery. As a last resort, contact me and I will reset your password for you. Keep in mind that I will NOT replace your password with one that you will be choosing. Instead, I will give you a random new password and you will have to change it yourself once you are logged in.

I don't remember my password. Where can I request my password?

If you don't remember a password, it can be sent directly to your e-mail. To do so, go to the Password Request Page by clicking here.

How do I change my password?

To change your password, you will need to log in first, then you'll be given the option to change your password in the control panel.

In other words, go to the "Control Panel" and click on "Change Password".

I am no longer using the e-mail associated to my profile. How can I change it?

I'm assuming here that you still have the password associated to the profile. Simply log in and modify your profile. You will given the opportunity to change your e-mail address.

I am no longer using the e-mail associated to my profile and I don't have the password to access my account. What should I do?

Nothing I can do here. Create a new profile with your new e-mail and stop changing your e-mail address every so often.

How do I make an advanced search?

Click on "Search". By default, it will show you the "Basic" search, so click on "Advanced".

How do I make a search by age, height or weight?

Click on "Search Profiles". (This is available at the top of each page)
In the case of age, enter the values of minimum age or/and maximum age.
In the case of height, choose one of the range offered in the drop down menu.
In the case of weight, enter the values of minimum weight or/and maximum weight you are looking for.
You can of course combine some or all of these.

How do I make a search by state and country?

Click on "Search" and enter the state or province. In general, it's better to type just a single word. You can also enter partial text: typing "New" as your state will return profiles that are in the state of "New Jersey", "New York" and "New Mexico". Similarly, typing "nn" as your state query will return states like "Pennsylvania", "Minnesota" and "Connecticut" because they all contain the string "nn". You can also type state abbreviations. For example, typing "NY" as your state query will return all profiles in the state of "New York".

How do I upload my pictures?

I'm assuming you already created a profile: Log in, then go to the Control Panel. Scroll down a bit and you should see a link that says "Upload a picture".

Or, you can just click here.

Can I upload more than one picture?

Yes. For the time being, you can upload as many pictures as you want, provided that they are photos of you, or photos of you wrestling other guys.

Up to how many pictures can I upload?

Right now, there is currently no limit.

How do I remove pictures?

Log in, then go to the Control Panel. You will be given the option to manage your pictures. When managing, you will be given the option to remove pictures.

How do I set my primary picture?

Log in, then go to the Control Panel. You will be given the option to manage your pictures. When managing, you will be given the option to choose one of your picture and set it as primary. Note that this option will only be given if you have more than one picture on your profile.

What is automatic rotation?

If you have 5 pictures or more associated to your profile, you can turn on automatic rotation by editing your preferences.

Automatic rotation will randomly pick one of your picture to be the primary picture of your profile approximatively every hour. This mechanism is triggered when someone visits your profile.

How do I delete/erase/remove/disable my profile?

Log in first. Then, go to the Control Panel (link near the top left of this page), from there, scroll down and you will see links that says "Disable profile" or "Delete profile".

You might want to consider disabling your wrestling profile instead of completely deleting it: that way, nobody can see your wrestling profile information, but you can still log in using your account to view the hidden and locked photos in video reviews or in bearhug uploads. To disable your profile, click here.

The other advantage of disabling your profile is that you can re-enable it at anytime if you ever change your mind.

Why do you have more than one user with the same name/username?

It's a question of fairness. Why should you be forced to pick a different username if somebody else already picked it? Is it just because someone else found this site and registered the name before you did?

If you wanted the name "John Doe" and somebody else is also named "John Doe", you should still be allowed to choose that name. After all, there's thousands of people in the world named "John Doe" and they are not forced to change it. Did a nurse tell your parents that this name and that name is already taken so you need to pick another one?

Yes, the end result is that there are multiple Bobs, or Dans or Johns on the site, but most can be differentiated by their profile picture, their stats (size and weight) or their location. Furthermore, any user can decide to change their username as often as they want.

The only unique identifier that carries along every name change is the profile ID. That stays permanent. This method allows full control and free choice in a free world for every user. :)

How do I make my text bold, insert line breaks, insert smileys or add colors to the description of my profile?

Use custom text formatting tags in your description. You can click here to obtain more information.

I have other questions not listed here. Where can I ask them?

You can send a message to the Webmaster's profile, or if you don't have a profile on this site, simply use the suggestion box or contact me to leave a question and leave your e-mail so I can reply.

What can I do to prevent google from indexing my profile and its images?

Set your profile to private by editing your preferences. By making your profile private, only users who have a profile on site can visit your profile. Google doesn't have a profile so it won't be able to index your profile and it won't be able to index your images.

What can I do to get Google to remove pictures that it has already indexed?

First, set your profile to private by editing your preferences. Then, delete all the images from your profile and re-upload them or upload new ones. Finally, make a request to Google to remove obsoleted cached images.

This is how Google Images and how their caching system works. If you create a website and post photos of yourself, Google will make a copy of it and add a few keywords associated to it depending on what you wrote on your site or profile. In technical terms, this is called a "Cache". When you remove those photos from your website, it will eventually remove those photos from its cache after a while. This time frame is at the discretion of Google.

Google images also mentions that it periodically updates and re-indexes websites. As such, profiles made as private, deleted profiles and previously removed images pages will naturally drop out of Google's search results. There's no need to request an urgent update.
