|POTM #125: Killer McKenzie vs Raymond Rowe - Sunday April 23rd 2017 (News ID: 1741)||[ Back to top ]|
The way this shot was taken, it looks as if it came straight from a movie. It features "Killer" McKenzie giving a devastating bearhug to the bearded and tattooed Raymond "Death" Rowe.
If this came from a movie, what would be the plot? Well... let me cook something up quickly:
By the way, if you feel like it, feel free to vote on the other images in this set. Each of them has a minimum +500 bearhug points bonus per picture.
The video of the match was originally provided by TheChanges23 (id 3876) under Link ID 3420.

|POTM #124: Lance Lyman - Saturday April 15th 2017 (News ID: 1738)||[ Back to top ]|
This is another one of those companies that disappeared. The videos they made was not bad at all, but in the end, I think the return on investment was too low or the competition was too fierce.
Aside from the heroes in chains series, Lyman also had some work done in wrestling and gut punching videos. Some of his videos are uploaded on YouTube, but most of the time, they'll be removed quickly enough because it is considered as inappropriate sexual content.. even though these guys are simply fighting shirtless and wearing jeans...

|POTM #123: Slovak Muscle Men - Monday January 9th 2017 (News ID: 1728)||[ Back to top ]|
Fightwin (id 525) uncovered these "flexing" bearhugs from Slovak Muscle Men, which are actually pretty good.
Yeah I know.. the flexing bearhug makes the victim pretty much full of himself, but that's part of the deal, right? You can click here to view other images from that set.
Slovak Muscle Men has been merged into Europe Bodybuilding since a few eons ago. Their site now features a relatively good amount of bodybuilding men showing off their "assets" to the general public.

|POTM #122: Talon bearhugs Beast - Saturday October 1st 2016 (News ID: 1717)||[ Back to top ]|
September passed by without me noticing it and I haven't written anything for the entire month. Meh, you guys can slap me a bearhug as some form of punishment, but I'm sure you guys are used to my prolonged absences by now.
Today's bearhug is between Beast and Talon.
I have to admit that I like this Beast newcomer to TA's roster. He's a good-looking bulky guy, good charisma, great amount of beard which I have a weakness for... and has apparently an MMA background.
As for the bearhug, I don't really believe it because Beast is bigger than Talon, but not actually by that much: Talon is billed at 5'11", 209 lbs and Beast is billed at 5'8", 225 lbs. So either Talon is really strong... or Beast is selling the bearhug very well.
Head out to Upload ID 34748 and get your +4,000 points today by saying yourself (through a vote) how much you like this bearhug.
And if you liked this bearhug, you can take a look at other pictures in this series of Talon vs Beast.
You know... If there is a nice trend that I've noticed lately is that Thunder's Arena has been very tolerant in welcoming new wrestlers that sports a beard and on occasion, some chest hair. Of course, to each their preferences, but this trend really makes me happy.

|POTM #121: Steve Dalton vs Justin Overstreet - Monday July 25th 2016 (News ID: 1712)||[ Back to top ]|
Yikes! 2 weeks without a post. I guess I've been busy wrestling here and there, but most importantly, I've been taking advantage of the summer.
I was thinking of posting a BG or Thunder's bearhug, but they get enough exposure anyway. They get way more of it than all these pro indies that occasionally produce excellent bearhug content.
I'll pick several pics of the moment today.
This first one is your usual big vs small gimmick, featuring Steve Dalton bearhugging Justin Overstreet. It's really too bad Steve Dalton was closing his eyes when this picture was taken.
The second is one of those rare gatorhugs (or bearhugs in water). I'm very curious to know what setting or what event introduced this bearhug. I mean how often do you give bearhugs in swimming pools? It looked as if it was even a caged match...
This last one shows another big vs small convincing bearhug given by Danny Deans to Party Rocker Ryan. Yeah... I just happen to like big vs small.
All these 3 bearhugs currently have a voting bonus of +1,500 points each. (See Upload ID 14414, Upload ID 28482 and Upload ID 30591).

|POTM #120: Another one signed Dave Mastiff - Monday June 13th 2016 (News ID: 1705)||[ Back to top ]|
Dave Mastiff really knows how to give his bearhugs. He has this big facial expression that shows how much strength he applies. He holsters his opponent high up in the air and squeezes him literally until he submits. When you're a monster like Mastiff, a bearhug is quite convincing.
You can vote on this Upload ID 16382 for a bonus of +2,000 bonus points.

|POTM #119: Illustration - Monday May 9th 2016 (News ID: 1699)||[ Back to top ]|
I think it's been a while since I've put an illustration as a pic of the moment.
I know... Most of you prefer the real thing anyway... but I feel this one is pretty nicely drawn.
It's currently rated as #31 Best Bearhug Illustration and hopefully you guys won't shoot the rating down. For some reason, when I bring some much deserved spotlight on an image, the rating usually goes down the drain. It's almost as if you guys seldom agree with my picks.
You'll get a +2,000 bearhug points if you vote on this one. You'll find it under Upload ID 29630.
Please try to be generous...

|POTM #118: 2 for the price of 1 - Sunday April 3rd 2016 (News ID: 1694)||[ Back to top ]|
Double bearhugs are usually very rare in pro wrestling, but Grizzly House Jones is the master of it!
Instead of 2 people bearhugging 1 wrestler, well... he does the exact opposite! He bearhugs 2 wrestlers.... and he makes them both submit!
If you think the picture is impressive, make sure you take a look at the video.
Voting on either the Link ID 2915 or the Upload ID 30157 will grant you +2,000 bearhug points.

|POTM #117: Time for amateurs - Tuesday March 1st 2016 (News ID: 1689)||[ Back to top ]|
It's that time of the year where I pick again an amateur bearhug.... and I can always rely on Wrestling Arena to give us the cream of the crop shots from amateur wrestling events and tournaments. These heart-pounding action stills always illustrate the vigor and intensity of the fight!
I couldn't decide on just one, so I'm posting two:
Ready to be thrown:
Sometimes, I tell myself: "I need to get a professional camera that will take exceptional photos like those!"
Then again, I probably don't have 3K to throw in that type of investment
You can vote on this Upload ID 18798 and Upload ID 11079 for a +3,000 bearhug points bonus each. Note that you will not get these bonuses if you have already voted for these pictures previously.

|POTM #116: Oil - Saturday December 12th 2015 (News ID: 1681)||[ Back to top ]|
I'm usually not a fan of oil wrestling, but this shot below is quite nice. In the heat of the action, this shot illustrates the intensity of the match and the rough takedown the victim is about to experience... These Turkish wrestlers are just... um... too much.
You can check out also the other Oil-based bearhugs by clicking here.

|POTM #115: Ryback vs Ziggler - Tuesday November 10th 2015 (News ID: 1677)||[ Back to top ]|
Many of you no longer watch the WWE crap on TV. Some preferring the old times when the WCW and WWF were still in existence or some other local or regional indies. For others, it's just not their thing.
You still have to admit that when WWE pops out one of their very rare bearhugs, they do still look awesome.
What makea this picture great is obviously the photographer and his expensive equipment because you can't get a shot up-close with this great quality with stills even on an HD footage.
You can vote on these 2 uploads: Upload ID 31907 and Upload ID 31908 for +2,500 bonus points each.

|POTM #114: Little flaw - Monday October 5th 2015 (News ID: 1673)||[ Back to top ]|
I picked this one because it is captured at a right angle, with a great close-up and the bearhug is lifted up high... It's almost perfect, but it is not.
The only minor flaw here is how the bearhugger is applying the bearhug... Note how he is holding his opponent. That's absolutely wrong and actually decreases by a lot the pressure on the hold. If you are holding something tightly, you need to have your left hand holding your right wrist firmly (or vice versa if you are left-handed). The left hand is supposed to give you the support required, so you can push inwards to add pressure to your bearhug. If one of your arms is turned outwards and you are simply clenching your fingers like how it is shown in this picture, then your grasp is very weak and you wouldn't hurt a fly.
I guess it doesn't really matter much in this case, since in pro wrestling, it's all about selling the hold. All the jobber needs to do here is to yell in pain or pretend to be near unconscious. Besides, most people wouldn't notice how the victim is being held while they watch this move being applied far enough from the ring. The only people privileged enough to get this up close is the photographer or the referee.
Now, for the correct maneuver, look at the one below. See the position of the hand on the wrist? Now that's an effective bearhug. That's how you do it. That's how you squeeze your opponents.. and if it was too much for your victim, you could have easily gauge the strength of your arms without the crowd noticing it.
It's the same bearhug... probably at one point, the opponent might have asked his bearhugger to apply less strength in order for both of them to preserve their stamina to go on with the match (show)... or the bearhugger lost his grip.
But honestly, in the end, these are small technicalities that nobody cares in the heat of the action.
The wrestlers here are Big Country bearhugging Scott Sterling. You can vote on Upload ID 5225 or Upload ID 12614 for a +2,000 bonus points each.

|POTM #113: Back to companies - Saturday August 29th 2015 (News ID: 1668)||[ Back to top ]|
Ok ok.. I've been constantly selecting bearhug from pro indies or small firms. I guess it's about time I pick one of those overly popular companies. So.. here's one Pic of the Moment for BG East, and one for Thunder's Arena.
Yes, voting on these Upload ID 2040 and Upload ID 20438 will gran you +2,000 bearhug points each.

|POTM #112: Joey Hayes crushed by Oller Tank - Friday July 10th 2015 (News ID: 1658)||[ Back to top ]|
This is one of those believable bearhug, where a much bigger guy squeezes a smaller one.
Is it that painful? Probably not, because I'm sure a lot of selling comes into play. That being said, if Oller Tank did put his real and full strength on it, Joey Hayes would definitely have given up.
If you didn't already placed a vote on this Upload ID 14228, you can do so now to get +1,000 bearhug points.

|POTM #111: Nipple claw or groin claw... again. - Saturday April 18th 2015 (News ID: 1647)||[ Back to top ]|
You'd think you'd never see this is wrestling, yet here it is again.
A demo of the nipple claw:
... and a demo of the groin claw:
I wasn't able to trace the source on the first pic, but for the second one, it's from 4FW Battle Britannia 2012, JD Knight vs Mad Dog Max.
Being a frequent user of these holds, I remember having a talk with someone who told me that this isn't the type of hold you'd see in pro wrestling. I challenged him but showing him the multiple instances of this happening in actual pro wrestling.
For another instance of a groin claw in professional wrestling, check out this video and for other images of the nipple claw, check these entries.

|POTM #110: Russian Muscles bye bye - Monday March 16th 2015 (News ID: 1641)||[ Back to top ]|
I picked this one today because I've decided to reduce the exposure from the mega big studios.. they get enough attention everywhere else.
And it is also because the guys handling the Russian Muscles site no longer seem to make their products available. Their YouTube account was hijacked and their website was closed due to inactivity. It does show how fragile are these new bodybuilder websites or startups. They try to take a little share of the wrestling market by putting their muscles for good use in wrestling stunts, muscle worship and other stuff that people enjoy. It's easy money, but it can become quite an overhead to maintain.
This pic features Sergey Bravo bearhugging Gaga and is the highest rated pic for the Russian Muscles company. Unfortunately, since their products are no longer available, it makes getting a hold of this bearhug sequence virtually impossible.
That's why I tend to put focus on these guys because they have a higher chance of disappearing than the big studios.... They need all the support they can get. It's moot for now since they've already disappeared, but you can take a look at other Bearhug from Bodybuilders and see if they are worth supporting.... before some of them disappear too!
I admit their content is not as refined or embellished as the videos from the big names, but you need to give these guys some time, advice and suggestion to help them head towards the right direction.

|POTM #109: Bo Nekoda vs Chad Flowers - Saturday January 17th 2015 (News ID: 1631)||[ Back to top ]|
This one is actually from Brunomariner's(id 547) pick, but I'd agree with him that it's a pretty good pro bearhug.
Chad Flowers is selling the bearhug by limping and lingering his arms in Bo Nekoda's deadly bearhug, when in fact, he probably doesn't feel a thing.

|POTM #108: In the heart of the action - Saturday December 6th 2014 (News ID: 1622)||[ Back to top ]|
I love Wrestling Arena's pictures.. many of them are perfect cliché taken right in the heart of the action.
Down below, Soslan Ktsoev gives a heart-pounding, ground-breaking and chest-humping bearhug to Davyd Bichinashvili. Truth be told, he was probably doing some sort of takedown maneuver, but we prefer to keep the shot still like this.
It would probably be better if this sport allowed wrestlers to pull down the upper part of their singlet or just force them to wear speedos or wrestling trunks rather than hide all the beauty of their chest, pecs and abs... meh, we can't have everything.
A vote on this amateur bearhug (Upload ID 11843) should grant you a nifty +10,000 bearhug points.

Officer Jason Rage really reminds me of the Big Boss Man in the good ol' wrestling days of the WWF.
In the bearhug he gives below, Officer Jason Rage teaches Joseph Bourne not to mess with the authorities!

|A tight embrace... - Monday June 30th 2014 (News ID: 1608)||[ Back to top ]|
I'm bringing back to life a bearhug from 7 years ago.
The thing I like about this bearhug is that really tight embrace and the closeness... you can almost feel that Ajax is about to kiss Angel... make him feel better for enduring all this pain (or pleasure).
This also means that Thunder Arena existed more than 7 years ago. I remember when this company first came into the wrestling scene. Very few wrestlers were available and they kept rotating around their small pool of wrestlers. Today, there seems to be a new contender each month.
Thunder really went a long way. From being a startup to a serious competitor of BG East, I think we should be expecting more great bearhugs from them. While their style and types of wrestlers are entirely different from BG, they also attract a different audience that helps support them up to today.
BG East of course was around way longer judging from some of their vintage videos and classic video tape format. In fact, if you look around the history of the site of BG East, you'll see that they existed all the way back to 1980! Now that's some wrestling history!

|POTM #106: Against the pole! - Friday May 23rd 2014 (News ID: 1602)||[ Back to top ]|
This bearhug is one of my favorite and a fan favorite of many of you guys too considering that it is currently ranked #22 on the Top Personal Bearhugs.
Today's crushing squeeze is courtesy of MizzouriGrizzly (id 648) trying to get a submission out of AleXtreem. Like all good heels, The Grizz uses a foreign object: a vertical pole! Hey, all is fair in wrestling, right?

|POTM #105: Spider-man vs The Grizzly - Friday May 2nd 2014 (News ID: 1599)||[ Back to top ]|
Sorry for the lack of update. I've been pretty busy as of late.
Today's pic of the moment is an oldie from a comic book, posted roughly 4 years ago. It's a very classic one for me. The size difference between the huge and powerful Grizzly squeezing and crushing the tiny and puny Spider-Man in this comic kept me in awe.
I do remember reading the comic book and if I recall correctly, Spider-man was pretending to submit to The Grizzly, but only to make him happy... I guess Spider-man is nearly invincible because of his super powers and it's not just anyone who can squeeze him to submission... not even The Grizzly.
You can find this under Upload ID 10358 and vote on it for a +3,000 bearhug points bonus.

|POTM #103: CGI - Friday February 14th 2014 (News ID: 1590)||[ Back to top ]|
The amount of designers or illustrators using professional 3D software to generate wrestling or fighting themed images is on a rise. Lucky for us, we get our occasional bearhugs in this nice feast of computer generated images.
The articulations, facial expressions and all those fine-grained like that chest hair or that little vein popping out are getting more and more detailed now thanks to the constant evolution of rendering technology.
But enough of that crap
Today, I'm picking 3 images from this CGI category:
First up is a nicely defined bearhug from Doom Trooper.
You can view more of his drawing style on his Tumblr network: http://doomtrooper99.tumblr.com
The 2nd image belongs to Barbaric Brawn, with a touch of video game in his bearhug. There are many others that are nicer than this one, but many of them are nude, so i can't post them right here in the front page...
Barbaric Brawn has a full load of other bearhugs featured on his site:
http://www.barbaricbrawn.com or you can check this listing.
My last pick today is a contribution from WoodlandWookiee (id 8112). It's a very nice piece of artwork if you ask me.
All three of these bearhugs can be voted on for a +2,000 bearhug points bonus each. Just click on the images above to land on the upload and to see the interface to vote. By the way, you can get a much larger version of each image by clicking on them as well.

|POTM #102: Can-Am - Sunday January 19th 2014 (News ID: 1585)||[ Back to top ]|
I've posted pics from pro wrestling bearhug, from personal, from amateur and from companies like BG and Thunder's, but I think it's been a very long time I haven't posted anything from Can-Am as a pick of the moment.
Their products now covers a wide array of interests. However, we only seem to get new bearhugs once in a blue moon...
This one below was voted by you guys as the best Can-Am bearhug with 22 votes at a normalized rating of 9.05 out of 10. (Yes, I do know that by the time you guys read this, the rating might change, but when I wrote this, this bearhug was voted #1 for Can-Am's bearhugs)
Personally, this wouldn't be my first choice, but what do I know about people's choice?
If you agree with this pick, feel free to vote a high rating on this Upload ID 13763 for an extra +1,000 bearhug points, but if you feel that a different bearhug should deserve this prime spot, try boosting the rating of other Can-Am bearhugs to kick this one off the top spot.
You can also check out each company's #1 Bearhug by clicking here.
Last, but not least, you can view the list of previously featured bearhugs. Each bearhug on that list is worth at least +1,000 bearhug points if you have not already cast a vote on it...

|POTM #101: Fun at the beach - Thursday December 5th 2013 (News ID: 1576)||[ Back to top ]|
Yes, this is not your usual everyday bearhug. Some would not even call this a bearhug at all, but who cares, right? You can call this horseplay or just.. goofing around having fun.
I'd have to admit: this shot is impressive. It's in the middle of the action, with bursts of water splashing everywhere. Amazing photographer.
From left to right you'll find Ben Kennedy, Brodie Grundy and Tim Broomhead.
