Thursday June 13 2013 - 17th Clash of the Titans ReviewWrestling events
Well... all good things come to an end... and I'm now back in Montreal after a nice trip to Atlanta between May 29 and June 3rd. I had a most memorable and amazing time at the 17th Annual Atlanta Clash of the Titans.

This year, the organizers (Joe and Harley) have decided to move the venue to a new location on the west side of the city of Atlanta, almost near Austell, Georgia and Six Flags of Atlanta. The location of the old venue was destroyed to be rebuilt for a new Wal-Mart. I've never been to the old venue, but from what the other wrestlers have told me, this new venue is much better than the old one. This new venue is brighter, cleaner, taller and much more appropriate for the event.

This was my first time in a wrestling ring, and I have to say, it's quite an experience. It is absolutely way more spacious than a motel room.

While I was at the Clash, I managed to get a fairly equal amount of sub and pro matches: about 38% of my matches were sub matches, 46% were pro matches and the remaining 15% fell into give and take.

• I wrestled Scottilla (id 3020), Scott (yes, there's 2 Scotts), Ironwill (id 3160), Harley and Edinchattanooga (id 2616) for sub, promission or light sub.

• I wrestled MooseJawMauler, GrappleFight, Destroyer (id 2190), Timnbama, StumpyStew (id 6633) and Edinchattanooga (id 2616) for pro (yes, Edin did both pro and sub).

• I simply lifted and carried SmallGuyVh. I don't think my match fell into either pro and sub. I'd say give and take was the closest style. I also wrestled JobberBear (id 2790) and I'd say I'd even put him in this category since he is such a big fan of continuous head scissors.

That being said, it is often mistaken that the Clash of the Titans is reserved only for wrestlers who enjoy pro, and that is completely wrong. The event caters to both pro and submission wrestlers. It is also important to note that the event welcomes any type of wrestlers regardless of age, weight, skill-level or race. I guess the word "Titans" in Clash of the Titans tends to make people believe that you need to be a heavyweight, but believe me, you can be a lightweight and have a tremendous amount of fun!

Down below, you'll see a photo taken of their 4x4 mats with a tarp on it that is used by sub guys and another separate photo of their wrestling ring for the pro guys. The pro ring is a courtesy of Destroyer (id 2190) who actually owns this ring and has such a limitless generosity to let everyone else use it. The sub mats were lent to us by the Black Wrestling Network who were sponsors of the event. There was also Manhandlers, a wrestling gear company who also sponsored the event.

Both mats and rings are not mutually exclusive. I did had some of my sub matches performed on the wrestling ring. The venue also has 2 bathrooms and 1 shower. Lastly, it should be noted that you do need to have a car to access this area since this warehouse is located out of the Atlanta city's limit and unreachable by its transit system.

Here are a few extra action shots taken at the event. The images can be clicked for a larger version.

I had a very memorable match participating in a handicap match where I was alone against the two heavyweight pro champions Timnbama and StumpyStew (id 6633). Oh wow! This was so much my dream match hehehehehe. I can't describe in words how much fun I enjoyed wrestling these two guys in a 2 vs 1 match!

I also had the honor of having some pro training with GrappleFight. He taught me how to suplex, how to land, how to follow-up the moves and be a heel. I was also very lucky to be his tag team partner for the tag pro tournament.

The organizers also gave away awards.. I actually received 3 of them. The first one is not necessarily an award I would have wanted to have, but since everybody knew I was flirting with almost every wrestlers, I was given the Monica Lewinsky Award which is given to the... um.. sluttiest wrestler at the Clash. Well... ok.. I did more than just flirt with wrestlers... I'll spare you the details.

The 2nd award I received was the Most Inspirational Wrestler Award which is a vote made by the wrestlers who attended the Clash. I was very touched when I received this. Prior of coming to the event, I was worried I wouldn't be able to fit in and I was a bit afraid of coming forward to talk with other wrestlers into having a match, but seeing that the wrestlers felt that I inspired them really boosts my usually low self-esteem. This award does means a lot to me.

The 3rd award given to me was the Dan Roberts Wrestler of the Year Award which they give to a wrestler that participates, gets involved and wrestles frequently at the event and doesn't hesitate to switch back and forth between pro and sub matches. Again, I was really really touched and felt honored when I received this award. To be honest, I was speechless and didn't know what to say despite my friends telling me that I should do a speech... hehehe.

Dan Roberts is a wrestler that passed away about a year or two ago. I did meet Dan Roberts personally, but I never had a chance to wrestle him. He was a very nice and enthusiastic guy that will wrestle anyone and also accommodated to many wrestling styles. He was a role model for many of us. I believe Dan Robert had a very open heart and a passion for wrestling that way surpassed mine. I will do my best to honor this award and pursue his legacy.

I did actually feel bad a bit receiving this last award, because I did not participate in the Battle Royale and Joe really wanted me to do it. I however did chip in an effort in the lightweight submission tournament, the pro tag team tournament (which ended up being a 2 heavyweight versus 1 handicap match in the finals) and was lightly involved in an interference for the single pro tournament.

The event had plenty of other great awards for everyone. There were awards like Biggest Heel, Greatest Jobber, Newcomer of the Year, Tag Team Champion, Pro Champion, Submission Champion (with 3 different categories: heavyweights, midleweights and lightweights) and many more.

Overall, I had an absolute amazing blast while I was at the Atlanta Clash. I would like to encourage you guys to join the Clash for next year. Please don't let events like these disappear. We had Hillside and Okie Rumble who were canceled, so I'm asking you guys to support the Clash as much as you can for the years to come. There are only a few events for the wrestling community and these events allow wrestlers of all age to come together, make new friends, learn new wrestling techniques and share your wrestling passion and interests with other people who share the same vision.
