Monday September 21 2009 - Okie Rumble 2009 ReviewWrestling events
Well, the attendance for the Okie Rumble was pretty low this year. I probably saw 15 wrestlers, maybe 20 max. It was down from 30-40 last year and from numbers like 80-150 for the years before that. The state of the economy is probably the biggest factor in this year's outcome, so it is understandable.

Despite that, I was quite pleased with the matches I had at the rumble. I had a total of 9 matches with 6 wrestlers: 3 matches with NickZ, 2 matches with wrestling_coach, 1 match with Houstonsubmatch, 1 match with WrestlBud, 1 match with Texastop and 1 match with someone who probably wishes to remain anonymous. The majority of these bouts were submission competitive matches, so I got out with quite a few bruises and sores... my neck and shoulders were affected the most. These guys really know how to put effective headlocks or other head/neck holds that can make anyone tap quickly. Mind you, about half the wrestlers that were present at the rumble are into pro-style wrestling, so don't let this make you think that it's exclusively submission-style wrestlers. In fact, all styles are welcomed at the Okie Rumble.

I was able to see in person OKWrstlMark, Rideumcowboy, BarrioBruiser, CTexWrestle, Derek, Alex, Shawn (I can't find the profiles for those last 3 guys) and a couple of other wrestlers, but I unfortunately didn't get to wrestle them (wish I could have though!!!). OkWrstlMark and Rideumcowboy are the organizers of the event.

I also got this nice great hug from a big Oklahoman guy that doesn't wrestle and whose name I always forget... I think it's Scott, but I'm not sure.

The only pictures I could provide are the ones with the match with NickZ and wrestling_coach. NickZ, who by the way, is the webmaster of the Okie Rumble, Hillside and Palaestra websites.

Also, here's a pic of the conference room they reserved and of the mats they placed.

You can also have a look at my match with Nick by clicking here. It should give you an idea of the space we had.

Overall, I enjoyed my time at the Okie Rumble of 2009 and will definitely want to participate at other wrestling events in the future. I heard much about Hillside, Wrestlefest and Clash of the Titans from the other wrestlers. There is only the matter of choosing which one I'd like to go for next.

Estimated attendance: ~20
