Friday, February 28, 2003 [13:24 EST] - New section up:
Best bearhugs

The Best bearhugs section contains images that i've taken from all the pool of pics currently on the site. They were selected because they have an amazing distinction from the rest of them. They are bearhugs with great quality and each of them deserve a page of their own.

I've been wanting to open this section for quite some time. I started working on this section two years ago, but I never posted it online because I was unhappy and unsatisfied with the interface, the layout and the marking scheme. Lately, I've been able to put things together and to refine the criteria for evaluation, so, it's now up .

Each bearhug are evaluated based on 10 individual criteria worth 10 points each for a total mark of 100. Please note that this evaluation is strictly personal and do not reflect the general opinion. As such, there might be images in the best bearhugs section that you will not like . Though for most of the selected bearhugs, I'm sure that you'll agree in part that they were worth being selected amongst the many others.

A last thing to note: Only the marks for the first 7 pics are up. The rest will be gradually and slowly added in further updates and in my spare time .

I've also tried to identify these images (wrestlers, sources and product) as much as possible, but it was impossible to define them all. If there's some information missing that you can fill, then please feel free to contact me and I'll post a credit up for you :)

Friday, February 28, 2003 [04:12 EST] - Copycat alert :P

Just a quick note that I am aware of sites/groups that carry the same name than the site and the group/club I've founded before its deletion. I am currently not part of these groups in any way, and I do understand that those groups are trying to build up a scheme to ruin the reputation of this site or to mock its management/contents. As with my disclaimer, I currently don't have any time to take any legal procedure, so I am currently ignoring these new groups and would kindly ask you to do the same :) I don't really care about what they do anyways - if they have time to waste to perform circus acts in their dedicated spots, then just let them do their stunts. :P

Also, I am keeping a cool mood and stance regarding any of these unscrupulous individuals that are against me and the site, which is why I don't intend to take any actions against them. It's a waste of time, really, and being alone to take care of this site, I already have too much in my hands. Besides, they are better things to do than trying to stop people that hides behind their monitor, trying to erase their traces with multiple identities, and plan from afar several attacks against me. While they perform their criminal acts in the online reality which is the internet, I'll just go and invest my time in the real world :)

The real winners are those that do not engage themselves in any type of hostility and in any type of "planning horizon" of anger and hatred.

They do want they want, it's their right, their freedom of speech :)

Back to light and happy stuff: The current maximum scope of the Bearhug Submission Page resides only on the site hosted by Geocities and Prohosting, designated by this URL: http://bearhug.cjb.net

If you're not on that URL, then you are not on an official page of the site. It's that simple :)

When in doubt, I've included at the bottom of the disclaimer the list of sites that are using this site's name (and its previous names) without permission. If you are wondering if a site is a true site or a fake copy, you can verify with the list given in the disclaimer. If you have any additional sites to report, feel free to do so right here.

Friday, February 21, 2003 [11:36 EST] - Tournament update

Heh.. this time I've remembered to change the match. We're approaching the end of the first round of the tournament, so let me give you an update of what has been going on. The 12 challengers were selected by people visiting the site - these people are referred as managers. Elvis was beaten by Steeve Reeves, Mikee Vee got completely bearhugged by Pete Kuzak, Justin Schalk was crushed by Leviathan, Randy Orton squeezed the hell out of Roger, John "Vulcan" Seru submitted to Brian Mazon (boy, in this one, "Vulcan" really lost by far and had only 19% of supporting votes ) and as for the lastest match, Ruben Escobar pinned Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli. The results were decided by... you guys . Keep in mind that the winners will move on to the next round and compete against each other until there is only one remaining.

Today's match, which will continue until next friday, features Johnny Handsome versus Nikita Koloff. Please vote and voice your opinion on who should give you a bearhug!

WOOOOT! I received my application reply from McGill and they've ACCEPTED ME!!!! WOooooooooot! Starting next semester, I will pursue my courses at the University of McGill and finish my bachelor's degree near May 2005. I'm so happy . They say that McGill is the Harvard of Canada.. well I dunno if that's true, but they do have an amazing popularity rating in Montreal and they are one of the best Universities in Canada. For me, it's all an honor to study in their campuses and facilities, but I've heard that there's a lot of competition among students (which also spells for less solidarity between classmates), but I'm sure I'll do fine .

Also, I had connection problems with my previous IP provider, so I'm switching to AOL servers. Hence, all my internet sessions/connections will be with AOL and I will use it to download/upload from the site. Actually, I'm trying this three-months-free-AOL-CD-marketing-thing . Hey, might as well try it out cuz I ran out of money to pay for my monthly internet connection and AOL charges a bit less than my previous IP. If everything is good, then I'll probably stay with them. Up-to-date, I like the cool interface, though I am somewhat disgruntled by some of the features they've disabled/modified.

Anyways, I hope you guys aren't too mad that I'm not updating the site often. It'll be pretty much like this for another two months. After this time, I will fall into summer break and then, I promise that you'll be seeing a lot more action when this break arrives.

Meanwhile, allow me to display three more links to independant wrestling sites that aren't on my links list yet (yea, i know, the links section needs to be updated too).. they're worth a check: New Pro Wrestling, Bulldog Wrestling and Black Wrestling. I got these from the Jobbers and Jobbing page and make sure you visit them because they're featuring right now a nice bearhug with Alex Wright ^_^

Saturday, February 15, 2003 [20:05 EST] - Oops...

I forgot to update the tournament match yesterday, so I'm going to leave the current one for another week. I don't think it'll have any impact on the tournament because results are based on percentage of votes anyway.

This is my midterm break, but I know that this week will be a very busy one for me because of all the exams that are due the following week. I'd probably be bored studying though so a little tune-in or two on the site will hopefully take place.

Sunday, February 2, 2003 [22:00 EST] - Mid-semester

You guys probably expect this anyways.. The rush time of the mid-semester will hold me busy for quite a bit, so updates will fall back to one news update per one or two weeks. The tournament will still be updated weekly, but for new personals sent after January 26, they will have to wait. I haven't prepared any new galleries yet so no luck there either .

I do have a midterm break that starts on Monday, February 17.. they call it midterm break, but it's midterm study week so don't count on that to see any huge updates on the site.

As for the compilations, you guys have probably noticed that I wasn't able to work on them during the holidays, so the closest ETA for the next batch/set will be in May or June 2003. I will have only one summer course that semester and that will leave me more time for the site... and meetings.

Lately, I had a match with a fellow montrealer and I'd have to say that I enjoy horseplay submission wrestling very much. He applied on me bearhugs, nelsons, scissors, twists, but mostly bearhugs and I'd have to admit that it was very exciting.. I meant more in the side of test of strength and buliding up your own resistance/defence against the hold. I had so much fun and I will probably have a match again soon. One thing I did notice for my defense is that I seem to be more vulnerable (more inclined to submit) when i'm in a bearhug that is given from behind rather than from the front. Nope.. I haven't had the chance to be caught in an inverted one.. yet. It's probably because this version of the hold is a bit riskier and we were very careful not to inflict any injuries.

And yes, from this match, I could conclude that lifting does intensify the pressure of the bearhug hold, thought it is somewhat a pleasurable pressure . I was also applied a bearhug on the bed. The opponent is lying on his back on the bed and I am directly on top of my opponent. The opponent wraps his hand around me and applies pressure. It's simple, fun, less exhaustive and easy to try. Though I recommend you to try this with your opponent, I feel it is my duty to warn you that the hold can be dangerous so be careful. I'm not responsible for any accidents or injuries!

There aren't much pics of the above variant on the site, because I felt that it was not necessarily a bearhug.. and that the type of pic gives kind off a different idea of what the wrestlers are doing.. well you guys know I need to keep this site G-rated as much as possible .. so there.

The last thing to signal: Most of January's news are now archived.

Sunday, January 26, 2003 [16:24 EST] - New profiles

This one is another quickie: The latest profiles that were pending since last month are now up in the wrestling personals. If you've submitted a personal ad lately, make sure you verify it and report any mistakes/omissions.

Now for something off topic: At least 5 of internet's 13 major hubs were targeted yesterday for a Denial-of-Service attack by the Code Red virus. Read the full report here on BBC News.

Friday, January 24, 2003 [16:21 EST] - Reformed bearhug groups

Actually I should have mentionned this way earlier, but kept forgetting about it. These groups have been reformed or founded a few weeks ago and they are worth an honorable mention: Sam's bearhug group and MisterWood2You bearhugs in wrestling group are hiring new members . They will both require you to set up a profile before being granted access. So, make sure you read their rules and terms of membership carefully prior to joining. The links to these groups are also available in the clubs & forums section, which is accessible in the links section.

Friday, January 24, 2003 [15:38 EST] - It's just a minority

I was been told today that the events of yesterday only concern a very small proportion of users and that I shouldn't get too hyped concerning the opinions of those individuals. For everyone who supports this site, I will have to ask you kindly not to send me any further reports on individual forums and communities unless it is a statement that has been announced by an official site administrator (NOT discussion forum administrator). Groups of individuals in small discussion forums have but very little power and influence on what this site is doing, hence there are not worth the trouble talking or even thinking about. They can say or invent whatever they want, only a few people actually hears them. They can send out letters and complaints to companies or corporations, but in the instance that they keep hiding behind their monitors behind a web-based e-mail, they will not be able to provide them with a convincing argument.

I realize that as this site grows, some people are getting jealous and are trying whatever they can to refrain or to slow down its growth and development. Also, for some reason, they seem to target my site and myself for anything bad that is happening. Some people accuse without proofs, they invent stories out of the blue and they point whoever they want. I guess ignorance here is the key. I shouldn't let these people interfere with whatever projects I have to this site and the least is that I still have a lot of you out there who continuously provide me with the necessary moral and psychological support to keep on going. For this, I would like thank you all and I promise to keep this site alive and active as long as I can.

Hence, I will no longer speak about any of my enemies unless they cause a very big impact to the site (in terms of legal affairs). Yes, I love maintaining and improving this site, but not to the point of being sued . Which means that if I ever receive in my official IP inbox a note about the supreme court of XYZ (and don't worry, I'd eventually check the source and IP first :), that will force me to abandon and close this site. Up until now, I haven't heard of any legal problem or a court case where a site would be sued for the free service it is providing considering that there are no adult pics on this site, so I hope it will remain this way.

Now, let's talk about brighter things: In today's update, we are at the fourth match of the bearhug tournament where Randy Orton from the WWE takes on Roger from the Muscle Studio. Make sure you cast your vote!

Thursday, January 23, 2003 [19:04 EST] - To make things clear

Wow.. I checked my e-mail and I was just informed that there are people that are saying that my website is hacked and that you shouldn't be giving any donation to the site. Well, for your information, and if you haven't noticed, absolutely ALL donations are handled by Paypal which is one of the world's largest and most secure online banking system. I collect absolutely no information when it comes to donations and purchases through this site. Paypal handles all the transactions. The reason why I'm doing business with them it's because I trust them and it's because they are a well-known and successful company. You can learn about Paypal by clicking here and you can also check out their awards, which represent marks of confidence and trust from various companies, known associations and consumers.

I'm not the only one that resorts to Paypal for their services: there are actually 20 millions of users worldwide that do the same.

So, it's your choice: You can either trust a large and successful company which is Paypal that was even acquired by Ebay recently due to its popularity and usefulness.. OR you can trust some random psychopath individuals in whatever discussion forums or newsgroups just to throw at people whatever crap they have to spit to lower my credibility or Paypal's credibility.

I guess I should care less for people that aren't worth my time. These false allegations those individuals are pasting at me could easily be reported for threat and harrasment to the hosting site and administrators of those forums. Most of the time though, the administrators will find the offending messages themselves and they will take care of the rest.. which is pretty convenient . The people who posted this kind of crap are careful though: they do not mention any names, neither do they mention the full and official title of this site or even provide any URLs, because they know that it will get them into quite some trouble to falsely accuse someone of fraud when the only fraudulent users are themselves.

If they are that knowledgeable and believe they have the expertise to differentiate or to pinpoint frauds, viruses and hacks, I invite these "individuals" to analyze and to scan every single file, HTML, image, flash and any other website content I have on this site and its alternate servers. They will see that everything that is located on the Bearhug Submission Page is absolutely harmless and virus-free.

I am very disgusted to know that some people don't realize the amount of work and time I put into this site and that I do it for free out of my own kidness and generosity. I don't understand why these users don't attack pay-sites, commercial sites or corporate sites while they choose and dare to attack at the weakest websites that they can come up against. My website has very little financial support. I even invested part of my school loan to maintain this site. Individuals that are attacking this personal website are no different than adults stealing candies or the lunch money of a harmless child. To them, I have two words: GROW UP!

If this matter intensifies, I guess my only resort is to have a nice chat with the administrators of the apprpropriate forums. Also, I would like to throw at these individuals a challenge: anyone has the right to listen to both sides of the story. They've heard your version of the story you made up, now why not let them hear mine by posting this news message in its integral format and providing them the URL of this website for them to analyze? Oh, I forgot, it's because you know that my website has absolutely nothing harmful to anyone and that you don't want your users and supporters to know the location of this site because it will generate free traffic for me.

Thursday, January 23, 2003 [18:38 EST] - Situation green

Things are back to normal and the problem with Prohosting is now settled. I've received enough donations to pay for a key element of the service.. well, at least for another year Thank you to all donators for helping with the site.

Along with the above, there are a few minor updates: I've added a new section called Opinions. Sometimes, there are people that e-mail me about bearhugs and I'm not really sure how to answer them. I have experienced a few bearhugs, but not enough to be able to clearly state my point of view on several side-issues of this hold. Hence, I need the wisdom of the people visiting this site, because I'm sure you guys have a lot more knowledge and experience with bearhugs than I do. Check out the opinions section and see if you can answer for me the questions of a fellow fan relating to the feel and the lifting/gravity of the bearhug. Of course, you can optionally leave your name or nickname if you wish to be credited for your message/answer.

There has been much anticipation and confusion on the title recently announced "Beau Travail", which supposingly contains bearhug scenes. Sam recently sent me a review that pointed out two statements to consider. Check it out in the bearhugs in movies section.

The link to AKIA (American Kinnikuman Information Archive) in the Sept-Oct '02 digest of the news archives is now repaired. Thanks to Jonathan M.K. for reporting the broken link.

In need of donations...

Ok guys.. things are getting a bit critical and complicated for me. I received an invoice of payment due from Prohosting and if I don't pay it by fourteen days, the site will be closed. Most of the traffic is forwarded to Prohosting because they give unlimited bandwidth and nearly all of the site contents reside on their servers. So, I need your help right now. If you can provide the site with a donation as low as 1$, it might save the homepage from an imminent shutdown. I currently only accept Paypal. To donate, please click here. For the moment, I will also send-in the bearhug CD for donations of 5$ and more through Paypal - if you decide to take this offer, make sure you leave me your shipping address along with your donation. Thank you very much for your support.

Tuesday, January 14, 2003 [21:20 EST] -
Four films added

Four new titles have been added to the list of bearhugs in movies. They have been submitted by Sam, Liftme, Pec2pec and Ash. Many thanks for their valuable contributions and great awareness of bearhugs . This should complete the last modifications I wanted to bring to this section... for a while.

Monday, January 13, 2003 [11:28 EST] -
New wallpapers and an artwork by Xkoshiji

Keith sent me three new wallpapers, two of which that commemorates JPWA, so check them out and give your desktop a brand new look!

Xkoshiji also granted me permission to post one of his artwork which contained a bearhug. It's posted in illustration 2 and you'll need to scroll down to see it. You may visit Xkoshiji's website to view many more of his designs and illustrations, which have art themes revolving around furries, wrestling and medieval. Not a bad combination at all One little thing though, Xkoshiji's website is in japanese (I believe), but most of his categories are subtitled in english, so click around and you should find the galleries easily.

Saturday, January 11, 2003 [23:52 EST] -
Another facelift for the movies

Since most of my visitors come from the US, I've decided to replace all Amazon.ca links to Amazon.com. In addition, I was able to find VHS versions of additional movies and some of them are quite cheap if you buy the used version (in the range of 95 cents to 2 bucks). I also added two new movies and one pic, with thanks that goes respectively to Swanton and Sam.

So, what are you waiting for? Check out the new and improved Bearhugs in movies section. It took me a few hours to re-arrange this page, but considering that I won't have pretty much chunks of free time like this later on this semester, it's well worth the investment .

The work on the above section isn't done yet. I still have more contributions for the movies from Ash, Sam, Pec2pec and Liftme, which I haven't posted yet. I'll complete this task maybe next week.

Friday, January 10, 2003 [20:58 EST] - BSC no longer available

The Bearhug Submission Club was removed sometime yesterday for unknown reasons. Links pointing to the BSC group obviously no longer work - They will be fixed momentarily. At the time being, I have no intention of opening any new group or discussion forum. I'll probably be waiting for sites that offer a better security, stability, along with additional features, interfaces and probably a nicer layout . This cooldown will also grant me a break from moderating, which I never really enjoyed doing. Besides, maintaining the site will already take most of the free time I have for this semester.

I personally would like to thank all the moderators that helped me keep the group active in the past few years along with every member who supported it.

In the meantime, there are still a few smaller bearhug groups available and other bearhug groups that have reformed. You can check them out in the clubs & forums section of the site. Feel free to contact me if you wish to add your group to the list.

Regarding the tournament, Steve Reeves won the first match and will be back for the second round of elimination. Right now, you can vote on an interesting matchup: Mikee Vee vs. Pete Kuzak. Remember that, according to the question for this tournament, you are supposed to vote for whom you would choose to bearhug you, and NOT who would overpower the other in a bearhug. Happy voting.

Somebody actually noticed that I was still in year 2002 in all my headlines . Thank you John for notifying me about the wrong date - they should all be fixed now.

Last but not least, I've re-fixed the archives again to remove some of the news that were obsolete, that point to links that no longer work or that were requested for removal by administrative staff. This should be my last edit of the archives since if I alter them too much, it would simply corrupt the database and in the end, it would take off the meaning of being an archive itself.

Tuesday, January 7, 2003 [22:01 EST] - Length vs. Strength

Adam sent me the other day an interesting addition to the articles section. The article contains a closed discussion thread that elaborates on the length and the strength of a bearhug. Take a look, it's a good read .

Want to know what's on my backlog? A dozen profiles that needs verification and then merging with the rest of the wrestling personals out there (with manual HTML codding). I'm wondering now if I regret putting that web form online for wrestling personals registration because ever since, my workload has been increased . Nevertheless, I'll be working on that soon, and if your profile is not posted, then that means that I've trashed it because of missing information so try again, ok?

Update (2003/01/08): Little edit today - I've given credit to the wrong person. Sorry.. Everything should be fine now. It was Adam who sent the article.

Tuesday, January 7, 2003 [18:22 EST] - Yet another wrestling announcement

Actually, it's the same annoucement than a week ago, but it is held again this upcoming week-end. Down below is the complete information along with the driving instructions.

We are wrestling again this Sunday January 12 at 1 PM in Pickering.

There are a number of people going so if you need a ride from downtown Toronto, the Kennedy
Subway Station or the Go Station, email me back before Sat 6 PM.

The address is 1655 Hollyhedge. Below you will find a Map Quest Link. Driving directions
from Toronto are as follows: From the Don Valley Parkway and the 401 take the 401East
heading out of the city towards Pickering. Exit Brock Road and go north (left turn)
onto Brock. Brock is the exit on the 401 just east of Liverpool Road, west of Westney.
Head north on Brock. You will pass Kingston Road and Finch. Just above Finch
make a left turn onto Major Oaks. Follow Major Oaks until you come to Denby.
Turn right onto Denby. Follow Denby until you come to Hollhedge. Turn left onto Hollhedge,
# 1655.

Mapquest link

We are informal wrestling group. We don't rank wrestlers or keep score. The wrestling is
basic submission. No hitting in the face and puches only in fun or for show - not to do
serious damage. No scratching. Everybody has got to trim their nails (clippers provided) and
any blood or bleeding will stop the match. The mats allow the wrestlers to start from a
standing position and take the weight of a fall from shoulder height. There will be
enough guys on hand to monitor the matches so nobody gets hurt. The wrestlers vary
from novice to experienced, 145 lbs to over 200 lbs. Gear is at the discretion of
the participant. Nude wrestling is allowed and encouraged but that's as far as it
goes - no sex. Towels and a shower are available.

Look forward to seeing you gus there.

Steve

Steve can be reached at Sohara@netrover.com, so if you intend to participate to this event, make sure you mail him, not me .

If you have a wrestling event you would like to announce, you can send me a message and a confirmation that you would like to see your annoucement ad posted online on my site.

Tuesday, January 7, 2003 [11:23 EST] - Worth a mention for JPWA fans

The group that concentrates on the once famous and popular JPWA is growing nicely. For those fond of the great wrestling this association once gave its members, you can check out the JPWA group. Lately, a handload of new "very-large" (or shall I say wallpaper-size) images were posted. Thanks to Jpwaboi for sharing them to everyone. The set of images DO include one Godzilla size bearhug between two JPWA wrestlers . Take a look however at the other pics distributed in this group, I'm sure you won't regret it .

Saturday, January 4, 2003 [12:49 EST] - Tournament results: Goldberg is the winner!

Cool ! I definitely wanted to see Goldberg win the whole tournament and I'm glad he did . The final results and tables of percentages can be found here. Also, as promised, the second tournament has begun with an interesting matchup between Steve Reeves, that hunky actor that played Hercules, and Elvis from W and L. You can start casting your vote now. However, make sure you read the new question before you make your decision. The tournament is no longer based on "who-might-overpower-who", but more of a question of preference. Then again.. it might be the same for some.

A new year means another step forward and a brand new page. Hence, all the old news dated from November and December 2002 have been placed yet once again in the "rarely consulted" archives.

Friday, January 3, 2003 [01:34 EST] - Toronto Wrestling Event

The announcement is a bit late considering that this is for a wrestling event that is held tomorrow, but anyways, here is what snakewrestle has asked me to post:

We are having a match this weekend (Jan. 4th)
and your invited. The guys will range in age
from early 30's to late 40's, novice to experienced.
The time is 2 PM on Saturday in Toronto. It is
submission wrestling. You tap out when you can't get
out of a hold or you've had enough. Nobody gets
hurt. Let me know if you are interested.
There should be a good turnout. Email me at
Sohara@netrover.com

Better late than never I should say . It's quite a bit of last minute and I apologize for the lateness. I will try to announce any wrestling events sooner when they are conferred to me, but if you can confirm that you wish to have such events posted on the site, it will quicken the task. Then again, an even faster way to do this is to post your message on the Bearhug Discussion Group or the Tag-Board of the site.

Today is the last day to vote for the ultimate bearhugger of the first tournament. Have you cast your vote? Shall it be the big bear Bill Goldberg or the fierce Ken Shamrock? On my last check, Goldberg was leading with merely a few votes.

Tomorrow, the second tournament will finally start!

Wednesday, January 1st, 2003 [02:21 EST] - Happy New Year 2003

The Bearhug Submission Page and the moderators of the Bearhug Discussion Group would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. We hope you all have a great few days break enjoying the holiday festivities.

Have fun and play safe .
