Episode name:
The King Is Dead

Description:
I don’t remember it clearly, and I have it on tape somewhere, but there was a bearhug scene in an episode of Little House on the Prarie. It was an episode where a scam artist came to town with a wrestling show and, if I’m not mistaken, there might have been two bearhugs. The massive Merlin Olsen was involved so it’s worth a look.

Merlin Olsen, who played the role of Jonathan Garvey in this TV series, was also known as a football player.

Merlin Olson is not involved in the bearhug scene, however it is worth watching.
EDITOR’S NOTE: For more on Merlin Olsen, check out the IMDB link below.

Plot:
Aging professional wrestler Milo Stavroupolis (Leo Gordon) comes to nearby Mankato to ”fight” the locals. Stavroupolis’ promoter, the shrewd Jimmy Hart (Ray Walston), convinces Jonathan Garvey (Merlin Olsen) to fight the old man. . . unaware that the fight is ”fixed.”

But there’s even more heartbreak ahead as Stavroupolis is suffering emotionally (and physically) after years of fighting; his beloved wife, Anna (Nora Meerbaum) (herself desperately ill,) has begged him to retire. The old man, conviced by Jonathan to substitute for him in the upcoming championship bout, gets one last hurrah -- before suffering a fatal heart attack in the ring -- when a cocky young fighter presses his luck.
